Fly fishing

©SA Tourism©SA Tourism If you’re keen on getting started in this challenging sport, you will find fly fishing guides and shops in most of the main centres of South Africa, and regular clinics are held in some of the more popular fly fishing areas. If you’re one of the many people to whom fly fishing is almost synonymous with trout , you’ll be pleased to hear there are some excellent trout fishing areas in southern Africa.

More interesting than trout, though, are the somewhat more challenging indigenous African fresh water fish and – of course – those rather more rugged marine species. There are excellent salt water fly fishing spots and guides all along the South African coast, and many of the diving and fishing lodges in Mozambique cater specifically for fly fishers. The surf angling is excellent on the Namibian coast and, while most anglers use bait, it would be a challenging fly fishing destination.
