Microlighting

© Safari par Excellence© Safari par ExcellenceMicrolights are quite improbable aircraft, but they are so much fun – and they certainly make it financially easier to get into the air. There are microlight schools in various parts of the country, and you could get a microlight pilot’s licence a lot quicker, and for much less money than a full PPL in a proper fixed wing aircraft. And, if you decide you want to fly conventional planes afterwards, you can use some of your microlight hours towards your PPL. If you just fancy a scenic flip, you will find yourself signing up for an introductory lesson. That’s a regulatory issue, as these aircraft are not legally allowed to carry paying passengers, except for students. So, you’ll be pleased to hear, your pilot will be a qualified instructor. It’s nothing to worry about – note the emphasis is on paying – microlights are perfectly capable of carrying two people. It’s just that the aviation industry is fraught with numerous regulations, some of which date back to an era when microlights were considered to be decidedly experimental.
